  • On June 15th, 2013 the Illinois Trucking Association and Great West Casualty Company awarded in cooperation with the American Trucking Associations the Great West Safety Award to Bear Cartage. Bear received 1st Place in Class 4 for outstanding achievement in highway safety.

    "This is great honor to receive this award by the ITA and Great West at the Professional Truck Driving Championship in front of all these great and safe drivers. It is the men and women like them, that help our companies put a safe fleet on the road with the motoring public." (Nick Urso, President)

  • Bear Cartage is proud to be the recipient of the National Platinum Safety Award. The National Platinum Safety Award was presented by Great West Casualty Insurance Company for outstanding achievement in highway traffic safety in highway traffic for the year of 2012.

    "We take great pride in receiving this honor from Great West for the second year in a row. A safety award is one of the best awards we can win. Our entire team is doing a great job of driving safely and putting a safe fleet on the road with the motoring public. In order to accomplish our safety goals, we not only rely on our safety department and drivers, but our operations and office team as well. We are proud of our entire Bear team and owner operators for putting safety first. Just like our logo says, "Our safe drivers make the difference!"" (Nick Urso, President)
  • On June 9th Bear Cartage participated in the Illinois Trucking Assocaition's day at the Chicago White Sox game. Bear Cartage invited all of our employees and their families to enjoy a day at the park. Bear had seventy guests attend the game and were treated to great weather and a White Sox victory! Everyone enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to going back again for the second annual Bear Cartage day with the Chicago White Sox. Pictured to the right is a group of our team that stayed till the final out for a group picture.

  • The Illinois Trucking Association has awarded Bear Cartage as their 2012 Carrier of the Year. On Saturday, September 15th, Bear received this great honor at the ITA's Annual Meeting at the Crown Plaza in Springfield, IL.

    "We are honored to receive the Carrier of the Year Award from the ITA. This a great award to receive because it is a team award and there are many high quality carriers in the State of Illinois. Without our Bear team of drivers, office members and independent contractors this would not be possible. Our entire team should be proud of this accomplishment." (Nick Urso, President)
     
  • September 16th to September 22nd is Truck Driver Appreciation Week. Our entire Bear Family would like to thank all the drivers out there for their hard work and dedication for delivering all the freight safely across our highways.

  • On March 10th, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation awarded The Urso Family (Bear Cartage) with the 2012 William J. Casey Hope Award at The 19th Annual Bear Tie Ball held at the UIC Forum. The Hope Award is given in memory of William J. Casey's devotion, love and compassion for children with cancer. Bear Necessities established the award to honor both a corporation or organization and an individual who assist Bear Necessities in its critical mission to eliminate pediatric cancer and to provide hope and support to those who are touched by it.

    On behalf of Bear Cartage, everyone involved with our golf outing and the Urso family, we are truly honored. We honestly believe it has been our pleasure and privilege to work with Bear Necessities and look forward to continuing our partnership with them.

  • Congratulations to Saed (Sam) Dallash for being awarded the March 2012 Driver Of The Month at the Union Pacific Railroad's Global 4 Ramp. Mr. Dallash, who has been contracted with Bear for 17 years, was awarded a tool set and a certificate for this honor. "Everyone at Bear is proud and honored to have a such a great example of a professional driver in our fleet." 
  • Congratulations to the Saint Xavier University football team and Coach Mike Feminis for winning the 2011 NAIA National Championship. On December 17th, Saint Xavier defeated Carroll College 24-20 to win the 56th Annual Russell Athletic NAIA Football National Championship at Barron Stadium in Rome, GA. It is the first national title for SXU in any sport in its 41 years of athletics and the first college football national title for the city of Chicago since 1913. The Cougars are also the first college football team in the state of Illinois to win a national championship since NCAA Division III Augustana College won it all in 1986.
  • The Fourth Annual Thomas C. Urso Memorial Golf Outing for Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation was held on October 1st at Tuckaway Golf Club in Crete, IL. The rain stayed away this year as 128 golfers enjoyed a great day of golfing for this great cause. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated as we raised $30,000 for Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. Mark you calendars for the 5th Annual Outing on October 6th, 2012 as we look to raise more money for this great organization. Look for more information and the registration form under the What's New tab.
  • Bear Cartage would like to say thank you to all of the owner operators that have helped make Bear Cartage one of the leaders in the intermodal industry. We are proud of the fact that we have drivers that have been with us since the company opened it's doors in 1994. In the picture to the right, we have a few of our drivers that have been with Bear for over sixteen years.   • Congratultions to our soccer team that finished with one win, one loss and a tie in the Compass Soccer Tournament on August Twentieth.  During the tournament, Bear had a sponsor table and passed out company information and gifts to prospective drivers. Thank you to everyone who participated in the weekend activities.
  • Bear Cartage would like to thank all of our customers and employees who came out to Rosemont and saw the Chicago Bandits take on the USSSA Pride. The Bandits did not win the game, but everybody in attendance enjoyed the atmosphere and comradery.
  • Bear Cartage would like to welcome and introduce Jamie Schmidt as our new Operations Manager. We are all excited to be working with Jamie and believe she will be an asset to both Bear and our customers.
  • Expanding service offerings to include chassis stack transportation.

  • Christmas 2010 presented Wes Kowal (Truck # 1019) and Stan Krzak (Truck # 1055) special gifts for being Bear's longest contracted Owner Operators and Cathy Williams for being the longest Bear employee. Bear is very proud of these outstanding individuals for starting on with Bear Cartage when the late Tom Urso opened the doors in 1994. Bear looks forward to working with these team members to help the company grow in the upcoming years.
  • Improvements made to the weight room facility for Bear employees
  • Bear Cartage is the official trucking company for the Chicago Bandits of the National Fastpitch Softball League. Bear Cartage has worked with the Bandits since their inaugural season in 2005. We look forward to working with the organization in 2011.
